Yeah, that recap. I hope it’s not the best of the year. February has already shot the record. 1772 yards of yarn acquired and it’s only 3 days in! 11 skeins! Oy.
I spent Saturday morning at one of my favorite shops, Modern Ewe, in Mt Vernon IN. I was teaching a class on sweater knitting. Students started on a sleeve, we checked gauge, and now they have their homework assignment. 3 lovely ladies, of which 2 are dear friends. And the 3rd will hopefully become a new friend! Lovely colors of Peruvia Quick were chosen and each will end up with a lovely sweater, while learning to seam St st and Garter.
I already knew I would be picking up some gray and black Liberty Wool for hats I am planning to make. But I didn’t know 4 more skeins would come home with me.
Our school Asst Prin of Academics is expecting twins. I asked Elder if she though Mrs. E would like hats for the babies. She was sure she would. So I sent off an email to ask her if there was a color preference. And received no answer! Well, I saw her Friday night at a school event and asked if she had received my message. She said no, so I explained I wanted to knit hats and she brightened up with a huge smile and said YES!!! She didn’t know I knit. With a response like that, she is going to end up with sweaters! I got two shades of two colors, for a girl and for a boy, of Comfort DK, a new fav. I am thinking to stripe the sweaters. Now, to find patterns that will work for girl and boy, or be similar if different. The colors are Beet Root and Teaberry, and Rabe and Sprig. I used Rabe and Spring for this sweater.
Before I left for the class I was dithering about what to start next. Just finished one shawl, and the capelet is labor intense, so I can’t work on it around people. I searched the queue to determine what to start next. And was stymied! I can’t figure out what to start next. There are too many things I want to make!!!! But now that I have the hat and baby sweater yarns, I will be chomping to start them all! I think the watchman cap in ribbing will be the first to cast on. Since it is mindless knitting I can use it for group knitting.
OK, time to get something going. Have a great Super Bowl Sunday! Go Raven’s beat the team that beat my team to get to the Super Bowl.
Oh well! You acquired the new yarn for a good reason so I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I’ve actually done pretty good, I haven’t bought new yarn since before Christmas and I’ve used a lot of my stash. I also gave some away to my sil who is new to knitting. I can’t wait to see the sweaters. My go to fav for baby sweater is Earth Baby Kimono by Lion Brand. It is a free pattern and I use whatever yarn I want to make it. Cheers!
