January OMG

So, it’s January 1st, what will the New Year bring me? More sewing time for sure. And maybe some top finishes! I seriously need to get some tops done before adding more. But for now I plan to focus on 3-4 things for my January OMG:

Family Passport Holder using this fabric!! We are taking a family cruise in March and this would be perfect to keep track of passports. That will be a definite finish. Hope I have enough fabric left for this bag.

Baby Quilt Hand Quilting Baby is barely hanging in mom’s tummy even though he isn’t due until March. Baby quilt is #1 priority.

Table Topper I’ve had this book FOREVER! Time to make something. I like the basket pattern, so it will be first. Maybe I should set a goal of one a month? Another is that Christmas topper, Winter Whimsy, in the lower left corner of the book cover. And Rhubarb Crisp, on the right side of the cover, is another possibility.

And just to make it interesting, I hope to finish one of these.

The wreath one is moot at this point. The pixelated snowflake isn’t in season either, it can wait. The feathered star is the oldest, so it should get first crack, but I want to hand quilt it, so not yet. Those open areas just scream feathers to me, but I don’t know how to machine quilt them well, at all! That leaves the top row left and right, or bottom middle. I think I will go with the top right, Scrap Jar Stars because I can machine quilt it. Now to come up with a quilting plan.

I think echo quilting will be the method I will use. I will echo the center squares out to the star point edges with 1/4″-1/2″ spacing. In between the star’s HST’s I will echo squares on point. I might continue these echos out into the border. The center 16 patches will get some diagonal stitching, maybe leading from each corner into the center or both directions. I just need to draw it out to see what works.
