Winter’s Fern

I can’t really say why I love this hat, I just do. But not for me, never for me.  I just look stupid in hats. I am too worried about the hair to ever wear them, flattens that volume don’t ya know! But at least I can enjoy hat making for others. And this one is just turning out to be so pretty.

I am calling it Go yOU! And it is being knit for my BioGirl, who attends OU. Their colors are green and white, so I thought this color combo apropos. It’s leftover Cascade 220, so it’s a win win! But I wasn’t sure about the colors after viewing them in Mono.

The pale green pops on the dark green, but from a distance the natural and pale green blend together. But that’s OK, it’s still cool. Especially when you’re a fan of a certain team, then your cup and choice of drink match your knitting!

This project is starting off my 12 Hats in 2019 Extra Knitting Challenge. Instead of 52 hats in 52 weeks I am making 1 hat and 1 cowl, or 2 hats, or 2 cowls, whatever floats my boat, per month. Hopefully by the time Christmas 2019 rolls around I will have some gifts to present.

However this one and the next hat won’t make it to Christmas, as they will be warm woolies to use this semester at school for BioGirl and her Electric Boy. Unfortunately Electric Boy’s hat needed a yarn purchase, just 3 days in to the New Year and I bought yarn. Knit happens!

Purdue colors for EB
Valley Yarns Valley Superwash from WEBS

I will be converting Downy to worsted from DK to accommodate the yarn choice. As it’s a 4 stitch repeat just like Winter’s Fern, it’s a no brainer!

Hi Chris! Oh so pretty, and it sure looks nice and warm. Since we have quite a bit of winter yet to go, I’m sure BioGirl will appreciate her green and gold – oops, white – hat. Such a pretty pattern! ~smile~ Roseanne

Love the colors you are using for Biogirl’s hat! So pretty! Yarn diets are so hard & I already broke mine too. Just bought a sweater’s quantity of Noro after seeing it on a podcast. Oh well! We have all year to get back on the wagon.

Love the colors for BG’s hat – it looks great! So neat that you are using their school colors 🙂 And hey, that yarn is going right into a project, so it doesn’t count. Great hats!

Lovely hats – and I like the sound of that challenge! The colors are perfect – I like how the dark green fades into the lighter green! Gotta love that combination! 🙂
