Patriotic Duty Wednesday WIPs

First, Happy Birthday to Me!!! Too bad I am spending the day charity sewing  and then in a board meeting. But it’s all related to my guild so I am among friends. I am 58 years young, and feeling it somedays!

I have been sewing BH’s Good Fortune Mystery even though I am always leery of joining mysteries. I usually change colors and then worry my choices will not work. To decide if I want to go further with this project I did a mock up in EQMini. The borders are not the same dimensions, so that last border isn’t a true representation of layout at the corner.

I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it.

Put more brown in it?

Maybe  less brown in other places?

Add 4 patches to the less brown?

Forget the brown and flip the 4 patches?

Please make a decision for me while I am sewing Little Dresses for Africa
and attending the board meeting.

My difficulty with mystery quilts is entirely mine, because I change things, and thus cannot know if my changes will yield a good result. If I end up dissatisfied with a mystery, it’s not me slamming the design or designer, it’s me owning my choices and making them work for me. I am still appreciative of their efforts and generosity. As a quilter I have my own tastes and vision, I’d much rather do what makes me happy than finish a quilt I won’t be satisfied with. I doubt I am any different than the next?

    happy birthday Chris!
Hmm I’m not a great fan of the Brown & blue combination myself . . . would be tempted to swap Brown for something completely different lol.

Thanks. Well, at least sewing was done, but there’s still hope that tonight I might find some knitting time. > >

it sounds like maybe you shouldn’t do mystery quilts 🙂

    • chrisknits January 9, 2019 / 4:54 pm

Absolutely! My OCD does not like the mystery. LOL! > >

LOL – I think I like it as long as I follow the pattern makers color instructions – you should see one I did years ago that was – thankfully- only baby size – it ended up with lime green and pink — I shudder when I think of it – but granddaughter who was a toddler then loved it and claimed it for her dolls.

Hi Chris! Happy Happy Birthday to you!! I hope you enjoy your day. I know you’ll have lots of fun and laughs. I voted and am so surprised with the outcome. I look forward to seeing where this goes. Happy Wednesday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

I just voted myself and was surprised! But at least the votes have been for both versions I am leaning towards, one just takes more effort to rip back to resew. Thanks! > >

Thank you! I did sew with friends, so that’s always a plus. And then lunch with the guild president before we went to the board meeting. It’s been great so far. > >

Happy Birthday! I like the less brown and four patches

    • chrisknits January 9, 2019 / 4:52 pm

That one gets my vote! But I also like the no brown version too. > >

        Decisions are so tough!

I LIKE the last one. The brown, not so much. I don’t do mysteries often, for that reason. There are some color combinations which are pretty safe, and when I do one, I stick to those. Usually, I wait to see if I even like the designs, so I don’t stress out for weeks at a time.

    • chrisknits January 9, 2019 / 10:04 pm

I like that one too! I think I will only do mysteries as they reveal everything, that way I will be good with the finished item. > >
