Wednesday WIPs

My knitting WIPs haven’t changed much but in the sewing department I have been busy. I made 6 blocks for a new mystery I am following along with in a FB group. I just grabbed some scraps and yardage pieces, so who knows how far I can get with this. But it’s just for fun. the blocks are 3.5″ unfinished.

I also got the blocks finished for October so it was just a matter of putting on sashings and cornerstones. The borders were easy compared to all those small pieces!. I have taken my time on this one, not to be precise, but because it’s so small and I have trouble handling these pieces. LOL

The quilting of this will be a bear. The star centers are 1.5″ finished. The sashing and cornerstones are .5″ finished. There are a lot of bulky seams in this piece that butt right up to their neighbor! Not sure just yet how I will proceed, but the top when done will be bound in the black fabric. I am so pleased you cannot see the lost points, mis-aligned seams, or general unevenness of this piece. LOL! But I really don’t care to make it perfect, just done is what I am going for. Most people will never even see it hanging on my sewing room wall.

Last week I ran this poll seeking help to decide how to proceed with my Good Fortune Mystery called Patriotic Duty. Thank you for your votes! The overwhelming majority liked the no brown option, which I really like. But since I have the brown pieces already made, and I still like the brown and red together, I am going with the 2nd favorite, less brown with red 4 patches added. Truth be told, I am just not willing to rip and redo all those red 4 patch blocks! LOL Now I need to just put it aside and wait until my UFO challenge draws its number. Maybe separation will yield a different direction?

Hi Chris! Lots of great progress on the sewing front this week. I just love how October is turning out. Maybe just a simple stippling so that you can avoid the bulky areas? It will look great hanging on your sewing room wall! I have NOTHING hanging in mine – just a bunch of Disney Princess pictures. Hmm. That seems quite wrong, doesn’t it?!! ~smile~ Roseanne

I am trying to sew more this week because I will be sewing nothing during the last week of the month. I will be in Seattle, Washington!! My first time to that state. Knitting will be my companion that week. > >

Thank you. I did toy with enlarging the pieces to make those 9 patches a little less tiny, but just went with the pattern this time. The only thing I am doing different is eliminating the black squares they had in the corner of the orange border. Just didn’t do it for me! > >

I had no idea your wall hanging was so tiny! You ought to put something in the photo for a scale reference, like a ruler or a coin. That’s amazing. I don’t blame you for not wanting to rip apart all that hard work on Patriotic Duty. It’s going to be beautiful, and for every finished quilt there are always the “ghost quilts” of “what if I’d done that bit differently?” 🙂

Your October WIP is wonderful! Yeah, I’ll be there are a lot of seams close together in that little tiny beauty. I have no doubt you’ll find the best way to quilt it. In the meantime, congratulations on another WIP finish!
