Friday Finish or Not

So, how about another poll?

Our Guild has a new challenge for 2019. We are to put 4 Fat Quarters into a  bag, seal it, put our name on an index card and seal it in an envelope. At the next meeting we will exchange our bag for someone else’s bag.  We are to make a project for that person with their material, but we won’t know who they are. We can make a quilt top, a finished bag, a finished table runner, or anything we can imgaine.  Help me choose which Fat Quarters I will turn in.

The thing that amazed me about the teal bundle was the fact the 2 middle pieces had more contrast in mono than they show in color. The two fabrics on the right side of those bundles read more neutral than contrast. Go figure?

I have another hat to present. Purdue, aka Downy, was made for Electric Beau for his cold Purdue winters. He and Bio Girl are in town this weekend so I wanted to have both of their hats done to gift them. Bio Girl is getting Go yOU, aka Winter’s Fern. Both hats reflect their schools’ colors. Knowing I had the best opportunity to gift EB his hat I ran to Mass Ave Knits to get some cream. I ordered cream along with the black and yellow, but didn’t realize it was out of stock at WEBS. I also picked up some red bulky for Diva’s Hat.

Yes, I have been spending way too much on yarn lately, getting close to $100.00. Must! Stop!  Even worse, I’ve added almost 1000 yards to the stash. But then, I haven’t spent a dime on fabric, so maybe it’s a wash? Though, will it really count as stash if I turn around and knit it up real quick?

What a fun guild challenge. I’ve done something similar once, except it was a block a month and we rotated the sacks once a month. It was a great lesson in color theory, as there were combinations I would have never worked with in those bags.

That’s what I am thinking. Will the person who gets mine be thrown off if I have a weird combo? What if the one I receive is odd? And then, what do I make with these!!! > >

The challenge sounds like fun! I picked the pinks and orange only because it’s so dark in the winter that bright colors are cheerful:) Any of the assortments you’ve put together are lovely.
Great hat! If you can knit that yarn before it gets comfortable in your stash it really won’t count;)

Hi Chris! When this person makes the project, does it come back to you? Just curious. I’m also thrilled that my vote was the highest vote getter so far. And here’s my opinion about buying yarn. You just finished 52+ hats (plus a sweet one for Addi). You NEED to replenish your stock so that you can knit this year without having to constantly go to the store for a project. Right?! That’s my theory and I’m sticking with it. ~smile~ Roseanne

LOL! You are right, I deserve to have stash, only I already have enough stash to knit what I want, I just don’t have the right stash to knit for others. When it’s a washing issue I try to knit with washable yarns for others. I know I will hand wash with care, I can’t control what others do. Yes, the project is returned to the owner of the fabric, so this makes me leery, as I am afraid I won’t like the final project! So maybe I should go buy some Fat Quarters that aren’t treasured pieces? > >

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Are you THAT attached to these fabrics?? As long as you like them, how bad can a project be?? I know . . . bad. But you’re only a few days away from the end of January and following your fabric buying freeze/ban. Tread carefully there, friend. It’s a slippery slope once you’re sliding down it – snowballs form quickly into snowmen. 😉 ~smile~ Roseanne

I think any of those FQ pulls are a winner no matter what you choose. I love the idea behind the challenge. Do you open the sealed envelope before you make the project to find out who it’s for? I might have to see if our guild is interested in the idea. We’ve just recently got everyone participating in the challenges.
