Monday Design Wall

Today I am sewing at our community charity sewing event. I have been trying to get to it, but something always gets in the way. This time I am refusing all other things! I am taking my top, batting, and backing to pass to a friend for practice on her new long arm. I figure she would love to have more things to work on that are not a “make it perfect” project. OK, some could say I am taking advantage of her, maybe I can come up with a thank you for her kindness. Something hand knit?

Pieced backing didn’t work out quite like I envisioned, but it’s done.

Berry Cherry is a wallhanging for my Sewing Challenge in April. The pattern is Raspberry Swirl from “Jo’s Little Favorites 2”. I collected some reds-pinks from my stash and auditioned this Fat Quarter pint for the border. Not quite as clean as the EQ mockup, but you get the idea. The problem I had was in choosing a background. I am so glad I didn’t do anything until after I took the Weeks Ringle workshop. I showed her the fabrics and asked Weeks’ opinion.

EQ Mock Up, fabrics are more red than purple

I had just picked up her best background bundle so I had those with me. She affirmed my thoughts that the light gold was the perfect choice. I am trying to keep away from just choosing cream or white for backgrounds. Other hues can be used to great effect.

So what do you think? The first two blocks are an absolutely YES! I can’t wait to get the others done and try out the sashing and border fabrics. The border is the bud print and the sashing will use the lower left fabric. It has a slight graphic line design.

So, what’s on your wall, floor, table?

Your charity quilt is so pretty. I do not enjoy piecing backings, but love seeing others. Your new blocks do look like berries! Love the colors.

Hi Chris! Love that new low volume background choice. It looks great with your fabrics. I have been wanting to to branch out using other background colors like gray and navy for a while . . . but we never seem to actually do it. Love this! ~smile~ Roseanne

Thanks. I am vowing to use navy and gray in projects coming up, but also consider putty in place of white when possible. One of her background bundles names is Dirt, I want to use Dirt!! > >

Ha! I used the “it doesn’t have to be perfect! You can use it for practice” on Mom when she first got the longarm. It worked for a few but then she decided I needed to learn to do it myself.

Cat got your tongue?
