Wednesday Whims

If someone went to Ireland/Scotland/England and brought you 5 skeins of yarn as a Thank You gift for watching dogs, does it count towards stash? Asking for a friend.

If someone called and asked you to make them pouches and you bought 5 yards of fabric to make said pouches, does it count towards stash? Also asking for a friend.

I mean, it makes you wonder if these hypothetical events would happen, how do you handle the recording of it.

Confession time, I’m the friend, and I am soooooo happy!!! Here’s the haul.

Click on photos to see the flecks in those wools!!

Kerry Woolen Mills Aran in dark green and blue, Studio Donegal Donegal Aran Tweed in the colors of the Irish Flag apparently. The sales clerk asked my sister if she was going to knit a flag. LOL! The red/Japanese style fabrics are for 2 bags, the poppy fabrics/accent pieces will make 8 bags.

OK, now to the FO!!! Another finished Zig Zag lace Shoulder Showl!!

This is for Diva. The yarn is Berocco Cosma; Alpaca, Wool, Silk blend, Sportweight in Taihu, a pretty gray. I made this version with 5 Zig Zag Lace sections. The pattern will be written for cowl, shorter showl, and longer showl, basically 3, 4, or 5 sections of the lace. I wished I had been able to get a little more garter at the bottom, but this is all the yarn I had left after the bind off. No way I could have gotten even 1 more row with that. I will amend the pattern to eliminate the last 2 increases for the longer showl length, it really doesn’t need the fullness and that way 500 yards of yarn will be enough.

I hope it brings a smile to her face. She called the other day, upset at a friend’s betrayal. What is it with young women? Why can’t they just cut out the drama. Both girls hate drama and much prefer to be friends with guys. Although BioGirl has had better luck in college with friends, Diva has not. Hurts this Momma’s heart! Her best friend lives in North Carolina and they just don’t get to see each other enough.

Oh, that’s such beautiful yarn! And I love the fabric too. Lucky you! Never mind stash counts, you can’t say no to such nice gifts, that would be impolite (and stupid 😉 ).
    The showl is wonderful!

LOL, I will never turn down yarn!! Thank you, it is so light and airy, I will have a hard time giving it up to Diva. > >

    Gorgeous showl!
The yarn and fabric won’t count if you keep them segregated from your stash;)
The drama is maddening for mothers who know it is all wasted energy:( Kindness is what counts.

Thank you, I am wondering if I could just keep the showl myself? I don’t know if I can “house” the yarn separately, the other skeins might get mad!! LOL. Yup, kindness can cure all. > >

Great new additions (and they totally don’t count!)

    The showl is gorgeous!

What awesome stash enhancement you got!

    • chrisknits September 18, 2019 / 11:17 am

I know! Now to figure out what to do with them.

      • AJ September 18, 2019 / 11:32 am

Oh now that’s the tough part, but enjoy patting them until then:)

Hi Chris! Beautiful yarns, fabric and especially your finished showl. It seems that drama follows some girls. I’m sorry that your daughter is betrayed by a friend. Betrayals are hard on their own, let alone one from a friend. {{Hugs}} It’s a hard lesson to learn and it makes trust an issue for a bit. Pass on a {{hug}} from me for her. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • chrisknits September 18, 2019 / 11:18 am

Thanks! Yes betrayal does tarnish the trust factor. But she will bounce back, stronger and wiser.

Sorry, the yarn is stash but the fabric isn’t. I consider the fabric Custom Order Stash and it doesn’t count. Either way, both yarn and fabric are beautiful. And the cowl! I can not wait to start knitting and the yarn arrived as I was typing this. It’s Gorgeous! And it’s going be make a beautiful cowl…. that I may keep instead of giving as a Christmas gift as originally planned. 🙂

    • chrisknits September 18, 2019 / 3:05 pm

I say keep the cowl!!! Let me know how much yarn it uses from the skein so I can note that in the pattern. Thanks for the stash ruling, I didn’t bother to read the rules. LOL!!! > >

No way does it count toward stash-unless you will have the joy of taking it off the stash count later, too! Beautiful gifts!
And the showl–just a big wow and perfect in every way!

    • chrisknits September 19, 2019 / 11:49 am

Thanks! I will count it, since everything that goes in will come out eventually. I really love this version, must make a longer one for me some day. But right now, I am tired of this pattern, this is my 3rd time with it, so I need a break from it. > >

Love seeing some knitting projects! One of my favorite past times.

    • chrisknits September 19, 2019 / 2:53 pm

I have been light on the knitting this year, but more because I am making larger items and not so many hats. OK, and way too much sewing displacing the knitting. LOL > >

  9. quiteayarnblog September 20, 2019 / 3:17 am

No, neither of those situations count as stash 🙂
Your showl is gorgeous! Hope it cheers Diva up – so sorry to hear about her tough time with a friend. That stinks, and sadly there’s not much that can be done about it. Sympathy and a nice new knitted showl will help a bit 🙂

    • chrisknits September 20, 2019 / 11:02 am

LOL! I wish my brain would allow that. But must be honest and count it all. Yes, Diva needs a pick me up and a change in her circumstances. I am hoping once she gets out in the real working world she will find better opportunities for friends. > >

      • quiteayarnblog September 21, 2019 / 2:56 am

She will! And yes, I suppose it is stash. But it’s lovely anyway 🙂

    Lovely shawl! She’ll love it!

    • chrisknits September 22, 2019 / 3:47 pm

I hope she wears it, that will be enough.

Such a lovely shawl. Thanks for sharing it with us at Wednesday Wait Loss. I’m sorry about your girl. Hopefully she will make friends soon. Went through the same thing with my daughter. So hard.

    • chrisknits September 23, 2019 / 11:01 pm

Thank you. It is hard to see them be hurt and know there’s nothing you can do. Time will help. > >
