Friday FOllies

No FOs this week, but I’ve been getting stuff done. I sewing 4 QALs at the moment, trying to stay up with them is filling my days, when I am not taking Hubster to have kidney stones removed. LOL!

The longest running QAL is the Moda Blockheads 3 version. I’ve subbed blocks when I didn’t care for the designer blocks, so not all of these are true to the QAL.

The 2nd block on left, 2nd row, is actually 7″, not 6.5″ so I need to decide do over or just remove it from the quilt.

The most intense QAL is with Edyta Sitar at Laundry Basket Quilts. I’m using yardage and scraps I cobbled together.

I have added and subtracted from this pile.

After Day 7 I had 48 blocks

To make 4 corners like this

Loving how this is shaping up, but I am not sure
I have enough fabric for it, I need more blues.
The newest blocks aren’t in there yet.

The calmest QAL is the Round Robin with Quilting Gail. She gives us clues to add rounds to our  orphan block. Here is my progress on that.

The first clue was Piano Keys

And the last QAL I am doing got started yesterday, Willow by Gigi’s Thimble. My fabric pull and mock up.

I am eager to get this one progressing.

2 each color-way done!

You would think that with most of these being 6.5″ blocks they would go fast. Au contraire, not! They are just as intense, if not more, than a 12″ block. The seams may be shorter, the cutting and sewing is not much quicker. But it is good to take my mind off of the debacle that is our politics at the moment. I am ready, once again, to throw them all out. A friend suggested we send a Kindergarten teacher to whip the politicians into order! I am not so sure she isn’t spot on. How sad that the people we elect don’t really seem to care about us in return. SMH, it’s sad, just sad.

If you are a small business person, or know someone who is, or an employee of one, I am praying for all of you!! EVERY. NIGHT!

A knitter, sewist, quilter, mom, wife, and doodle lover!, but not necessarily in that order. Just ask my family, they'll tell you who comes first. Psst, it's the doodles!

  1. I started Edyta’s quilt and then stalled. I didn’t like my colors and I can’t concentrate on it. I will get back to it later and probably have a different color scheme then

    1. I said I wasn’t doing mysteries as they played out, but I caved. LOL! I would have likely been better to wait and see where the colors were going, but I am glad to do it along now to keep my mind from exploding. LOL I am sure you will find a gorgeous fabric pull when you are ready. > >

  2. Oh wow! They all look so good. Doing those QALs seems like a good way to escape reality for a while. Maybe I need to find myself some KALs… (I don’t think I should attempt my first real quilts with QALs like these).

    1. Thanks, I am keeping up so far, but will be out of town Monday overnight, so not sure how that will affect my participation! Don’t fear QALs because you don’t feel prepared. The Laundry Basket one is great because she shows you in photo detail how to prepare and build your piecing. It’s just straight seams anyway! But the most important thing is 1/4 seam accuracy. > >

  3. I’m glad you have pared back you QAL’s this year……! lol
I like the unusual layout for the Edyta quilt.

  4. These are all coming along so great! I like all of them! Sorry about your husband! Hopefully that is all over now – poor guy!! I am with you about too much politics – I am glad I have fabric to cut up haha!

  5. You’ve got lots going on! And accomplishing progress on all of them! That must feel great!
The piano keys look great on your Stay-at-Home Round Robin!
Thank you for LINKing up to the Stay-at-Home Round Robin!
    Happy Quilting! 🙂

      1. Kids aren’t allowed to come in but I’m supposed to go in next week to get my computer and then teach from home

  6. That is a lot of QALs to have going at once! But they are all looking lovely – you do such great work 🙂 And now is a good time to have your mind taken off of everything that is going on.

      1. LOL, totally self imposed!! Today’s Laundry Basket clue is sixteen 6.5” four patch HST blocks!! And my other project I am making twenty-four 3” Pinwheels. Plus, I have 12 more face masks to make for donation. I might be sewing all night. LOL > >

  7. You’ve good a good start on all the quilt alongs. I’ve resisted so far, but Bonnie Hunter is starting up a Medallion quilt along today. Have fun with all the new projects.

    1. I stopped following Bonnie after her FB attack dogs got on my nerves. I wasn’t attacked, but just got tired of all the drama. And I realized that I never really loved the 2 MQALs I did of hers. And maybe that’s a good thing, I don’t need another anything along! Thanks >
