What a fun day I had Thursday!! I am in charge of Skill Share events for my guild this year. Our Shares were cancelled March-May due to the shutdowns, but we are finally able to gather in small groups, so we had June’s class in person!!
It was a small crowd, and we also live streamed it on Facebook to include others who couldn’t make it. I don’t think the Live Stream is the way to go*, it was a 4 hour class and who wants to slog through that if you aren’t there in person. To shorten the time I had the teacher walk through her samples as she could to get the info out to the ones at home. At the end of our time we had some lovely beach totes!
I bought screen material from the teacher to make 3 totes of my own. After running Hubster to get his stent removed on Friday afternoon I swung by JoAnn’s to get the webbing for the straps. Once home I got a tote made up, and ScientistGirl promptly claimed it! LOL
The pattern is Tote It by Nancy Ota. I am so glad Anne taught us her method of making this, because she provided tips like: covering the inside seam to avoid the rough edge the screen creates, how to vary the pocket panel sizes, and how to make sure your pockets will be even once the side seams are sewn. She included extra screen so we could fashion little zipper pouches to hold important stuff. I wish she had reminded me to center my design so maybe 1 full turtle would have appeared between my straps! LOL, the next one I will be sure to watch my design.
And there will be a next one, and a next one!
On the left a lightweight upholstery fabric, and on the right some quilting cotton. Oh the possibilities!!! This just might be my new potato zippered pouch chip!!
*I totally suck at holding a phone steady and not swinging around wildly! It’s unlikely I could have even watched my own Live Stream, I would have ended up motion sick!! LOL
Parking this here for future reference. Skinny Bin
