Happy Independence Day!! I hope you get to see some awesome fireworks tonight!
Sewing has been hit or miss this week. Even though I have gotten in the sewing room every day but one, I didn’t feel like I was getting anything done. But finally Friday was the key to getting. Over the past week I have finally quilted and bound UFOs, and finally 2 items are done! Today’s item is Shoo-Fly in Miniature.
I started this scrap project about a month ago, using an orphan block as my base.
Back in 2019 I was doing a mini SAL with 6″ blocks. I made a test with the Shoo-Fly pattern, but it wasn’t quite right. I put it aside and then made one in the right size, along with the other 5 to total 6, my monthly goal.
And one day, I came across that orphan, and the game was on! Time to make something with it. Now, you might think I would use it for a zipper pouch, and I considered it, but it wanted to be a mini piece, so time to get all the scraps together. I made 3 more blocks and then sashed them and bordered them and then, it sat. And sat. But this week it was time.
I grabbed a few of the rulers in the Westalee kit to make a Dahlia from the center out and then bullseyes in the block centers. The border just got straight lines echoed around.
And then it was time for the binding. And having none of the border fabric left I turned to a different navy and sewed it on. And then cut it short!!! What to do? Hm, I have seen a lot of neat bindings with a small detail. So it was time for a detail! I pieced a 1″ strip of the diagonal stripe into the binding. And I love it!
And it quickly found a place of pride in my front hallway!
