SAHRR 2021

Today is the kick off for the SAHRR 2021 version. As 2020 was coming to a close, Gail contacted several bloggers and asked if we would like to take part in this QAL. I was in! I played along in 2020 and created my Corona Round Robin from that QAL. It is finally ready to go on the little foot frame for Gigi to quilt Baptist Fans all over.

When I started considering the center block for this year’s QAL I remembered seeing a neat block on a FB post. I searched, but to now avail, so I had to recreate it in EQ8. My first thought was Christmas colors, I guess because we were heading into Christmas 2020 and those traditional colors were all around me. I mocked it up with a cream background, but it just wasn’t working for me, so I thought black might work. Hello!!!

Much better

If you want to play along here’s the deets!

Each week we will publish a post detailing our “round” of the robin. We have chosen a motif to use in our round and will host that week’s link party for those playing along. The link up will be open for the entire week to add your post to. Below is the schedule of the designers and links to their blogs.

We hope you will join us in creating a unique project, with our vision, but using your fabrics and sewing skills. No stress about being precise in your seams for someone else’s project. You work on your top at your pace, making your own design decisions.

Be prepared for some surprises, as not all quilters interpret the prompts in the same way. Some of us are a bit oddball! LOL. While we will be giving you a view of our round, we won’t be giving you instructions on the particulars. There may be explanations of what we did, but we aren’t working from the same block or pattern, so you may have to do some math to work out your rounds. But help might be given to those who ask, it’s up to the designer.

If you don’t care for that week’s prompt? Change it up! While this is a challenge to use the motifs we are giving you, it’s not a hard rule. We want you to have fun and make something you like!

So, are you game?

  1. Hi Chris! While I like the cream background, your choice for switching to the black really makes these colors and fabric POP. You’re up first next week with Round One! I can’t wait to see what you add and how it enhances this pretty nifty block. ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. What a difference with the black color as the background! Wow! Do you realize that your block is already a ’round robin’ of sorts….

    1. It is totally up to you how to start your SAHRR, Make whatever size block you want, in whatever pattern you want! This is just an exercise in making a project using prompts for the rounds. It is not meant to be sew by numbers. That way every quilter can use their creative genes to produce a truly unique quilt! > >

  3. Great project to get people’s creative juices going. I like both the black background block and the light one. Thanks for linking with Design Wall Monday, and I look forward to seeing your progress on this quilt. Hugs, Judy

    1. Thanks! It is truly a design wall item, even though I don’t have a design wall!! It will be a few weeks before the project will come to fruition, so maybe I should look into make a design wall? > >

  4. Wow – that black background made a huge difference. Beautiful. I’m not sure I’ll sew along with you all, but I’m very interested in following folks’ progress. Round Robins can be so much fun.

    1. I hope you find time to play with the prompts when you get a chance! Thanks, I am very glad I went with the black, even if I do have to cobble several prints together. > >

  5. The black background really changed that up, I love it! It didn’t read Christmas to me, just really cozy. I love this start!

  6. I thought I had left a comment yesterday but anyway, I love your block! Amazing what a difference that background makes.
Thanks for posting the link to the SAHRR. I’ve been confused and am still finding my way around the challenge. Confused is a normal state for me. 😉

    1. Thanks! The gist of it is, you make a center block to your own dimensions and preference. Then each week the designers will showcase a new border using a prompt. You will follow that prompt in whatever way you want. Say if the prompt is Square in a Square, you add that block style in whatever fashion you want. We will give you tips about what we’ve done with our prompts and even some designers might give more details of how they approached the mechanics of their rounds. Good luck! It’s a lot of fun. Welcome aboard! > >
