Today is the kick off for the SAHRR 2021 version. As 2020 was coming to a close, Gail contacted several bloggers and asked if we would like to take part in this QAL. I was in! I played along in 2020 and created my Corona Round Robin from that QAL. It is finally ready to go on the little foot frame for Gigi to quilt Baptist Fans all over.
When I started considering the center block for this year’s QAL I remembered seeing a neat block on a FB post. I searched, but to now avail, so I had to recreate it in EQ8. My first thought was Christmas colors, I guess because we were heading into Christmas 2020 and those traditional colors were all around me. I mocked it up with a cream background, but it just wasn’t working for me, so I thought black might work. Hello!!!
If you want to play along here’s the deets!
Each week we will publish a post detailing our “round” of the robin. We have chosen a motif to use in our round and will host that week’s link party for those playing along. The link up will be open for the entire week to add your post to. Below is the schedule of the designers and links to their blogs.
- Round 1: Jan 18th Chris @ Chrisknitssews
- Round 2: Jan 25th Emily @ The Darling Dogwood
- Round 3: Feb 1st Anja @ Anja Quilts
- Round 4: Feb 8th Roseanne & Sue @ Home Sewn by Us
- Round 5: Feb 15th Wendy @ Pieceful Thoughts of my Quilting Life
- Round 6: Feb 22nd Susan @ Quilt Fabrication
- Round 7: Feb 28th Gail @ Quilting Gail
We hope you will join us in creating a unique project, with our vision, but using your fabrics and sewing skills. No stress about being precise in your seams for someone else’s project. You work on your top at your pace, making your own design decisions.

Be prepared for some surprises, as not all quilters interpret the prompts in the same way. Some of us are a bit oddball! LOL. While we will be giving you a view of our round, we won’t be giving you instructions on the particulars. There may be explanations of what we did, but we aren’t working from the same block or pattern, so you may have to do some math to work out your rounds. But help might be given to those who ask, it’s up to the designer.
If you don’t care for that week’s prompt? Change it up! While this is a challenge to use the motifs we are giving you, it’s not a hard rule. We want you to have fun and make something you like!
So, are you game?

Hi Chris! While I like the cream background, your choice for switching to the black really makes these colors and fabric POP. You’re up first next week with Round One! I can’t wait to see what you add and how it enhances this pretty nifty block. ~smile~ Roseanne
I don’t know about enhancing the design, but it sure does ease them into the round! LOL Thanks > >
What a difference with the black color as the background! Wow! Do you realize that your block is already a ’round robin’ of sorts….
LOL!! I didn’t even notice! I’m fairly oblivious sometimes. > >
I’m in, except I am confused about making the center panel. Do I just make whatever I want, or is there a clue? And how big should it be?
It is totally up to you how to start your SAHRR, Make whatever size block you want, in whatever pattern you want! This is just an exercise in making a project using prompts for the rounds. It is not meant to be sew by numbers. That way every quilter can use their creative genes to produce a truly unique quilt! > >
Okay. After I wrote you, I decided on what to do. Hopefully I will be able to show my starting block later today.
Oh wowwee, is that block fantastic, or what?! Looking forward to seeing the first border next week!
Thanks! I’m off to see everyone else’s start!! This is going to be so much fun! > >
That’s a great block – I do like the black background! It will be fun to see how the round robin progresses. I’m joining in – just need my fabric to be delivered!
Oh, yippee!! I can’t wait to see your fabric selection, you have such a great eye for color! > >
That block is so much more striking with the black background!
Thanks! It is amazing how color affects us! > >
Very true!
Great project to get people’s creative juices going. I like both the black background block and the light one. Thanks for linking with Design Wall Monday, and I look forward to seeing your progress on this quilt. Hugs, Judy
Thanks! It is truly a design wall item, even though I don’t have a design wall!! It will be a few weeks before the project will come to fruition, so maybe I should look into make a design wall? > >
Love the black fabric you’ve chosen – looks great! I’m excited to see where this goes.
Thanks! I worked ahead and have two rounds finished. It’s quick when you’re only doing 2 sides per round! LOL > >
Beautiful block!! I really like your sparkly black fabric! Can’t wait to see your quilt come together as we journey through the SAHRR 2021!
Happy Quilting! 🙂
Thanks! I need to get around the blogs to see what everyone is coming up with! I bet I will be enamored of them all. > >
Wow – that black background made a huge difference. Beautiful. I’m not sure I’ll sew along with you all, but I’m very interested in following folks’ progress. Round Robins can be so much fun.
I hope you find time to play with the prompts when you get a chance! Thanks, I am very glad I went with the black, even if I do have to cobble several prints together. > >
Great block and it does look even better with the black background. This will be a fun project to watch you work on and complete. Take care, Mary.
Thank you! I am excited to get it done and all revealed in February! >
I just might have to join in!
Come on in! It’s hoing to be fun!!

Chris your block is a stunning start. Beautiful fabric and the black makes everything pop! 😉
Thank you! It’s a good start, let’s see if my vision comes to life.

The black background really changed that up, I love it! It didn’t read Christmas to me, just really cozy. I love this start!
Thanks. I love how changing up a background color can create such wow!

I thought I had left a comment yesterday but anyway, I love your block! Amazing what a difference that background makes.
Thanks for posting the link to the SAHRR. I’ve been confused and am still finding my way around the challenge. Confused is a normal state for me. 😉
Thanks! The gist of it is, you make a center block to your own dimensions and preference. Then each week the designers will showcase a new border using a prompt. You will follow that prompt in whatever way you want. Say if the prompt is Square in a Square, you add that block style in whatever fashion you want. We will give you tips about what we’ve done with our prompts and even some designers might give more details of how they approached the mechanics of their rounds. Good luck! It’s a lot of fun. Welcome aboard! > >
Great block. Can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
Thanks! I have two rounds done and working on the next ones.

That is a gorgeous center block! this will be fun to see how yours comes together!
