Well, I got a little more productive than I thought! All through the weekend I was busy working on blocks for Camdyn’s Ripples, seaming and arranging mock ups in EQ8. I ended up altering 4 blocks to better fit my vision of the quilt. But it’s all good! Only, I kept getting confused about the placement of the blocks and having to redo the mock up multiple times. And then sewed some blocks together in the wrong place, and got turned around only a few times. But with diligence I was able to work through those issues and in one afternoon I got the blocks sewn into a top.
Here’s where I started:
I worked on the prepped piece stacks in marathon sewing with friends, then here and there, until there were done. I got them all pieced and laid out on the cutting table, ready to put them into rows. I arranged them in the order I created the color ways in the EQ8 program, several combos had multiples, then I used my “map” to pull the numbered block I needed for the rows.
Once the blocks were done I was ready to build a top. I put on AMC and watched a REALLY old movie called Camille, with Greta Garbo, and sewed the blocks into rows and the rows into a top.
As always, an EQ8 mock up was done and consulted all through the project. I love this program! It helps me envision the project and keep true to my intent. It’s almost as good as a design wall, except moving blocks is a lot easier on a design wall! Now to find yardage in the stash for backing, pieced is likely the only option since I don’t do a lot of pastel pink. And, as always, ponder the quilting! I am really thinking Baptist Fans on this one, but there’s still time to play with options.
Chris, I love this!! I just bought the Storm at Sea BOB and can’t wait to try it out! And I love this fabric. Is this a particular fabric line or just pieces you’ve collected? Inquiring minds want to know! LOL I really love the background fabrics you chose.
I started with the two backgrounds and the pinks. They were just purchases at a shop. Then I added purples and the lime from stash and another shopping trip. So not at all a planned grouping. The background was perfect for the request for pink and purple, so it led me to the green since there’s a bit of that in the print. Thanks! > >
Fantastic!!! I love how the circles pop out at me in different places!
Me too! I just love the possibilities with this pattern.

beautiful – I too really like how the circles pop out
Me too! That’s my favorite thing about the pattern. Thanks

Hi Chris! WOW. You really got this quilt top together so quickly. And exactly to your vision is fab. I guess I should use EQ8 as a road map more often since I very often have the blocks taking a detour down another path. I think Baptist Fans would be perfect for this piece but know you’ll stew about it for a bit. It’s stunning already! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
The blocks are so simple, it goes fast. It’s either Baptist Fans or orange peels! Thanks

That is beautiful! I love the colors together and the way the different color combination blocks play together!
Thanks! I am still learning what makes the circles pop, maybe the next one will be perfect.

It looks perfect to me already! But we are always our own worst critics 🙂
It looks wonderful! I love the muted colors and the little pop of the darker colors.
Thanks! I hope I can do justice with the quilting!
