I am back in the saddle again!! Or at least, I have a FO this week. I didn’t accomplish my August UFO goal of finishing Let Freedom Ring. Considering I went to Evansville mid August and never came home, I can see why. But I finally got the courage to get up to my sewing room to organize and quilt. At 3:00 pm on Thursday I pulled the quilt off the frame and it was time to bind it!!

I tried to quilt each Star block as it’s own, changing the quilting as whimsy struck. I think I accomplished that goal. Yes, those are clips along the edge, I hadn’t quite finished the binding, but wanted to get photos for the blog post.

For the blank squares I went with meanders in the melon shapes and cross-hatch in the interior. It was about all I could think of to do. Funny how those blocks with squares give me all kinds of ideas, but the blank ones, nothing. But, I did find a gorgeous wreath for the largest blank area, and even changed the size so I could use it in a corner block. I LOVE IT!!!

Definitely some things I would position differently if I did it over, but it’s done, I love it and I won’t regret anything I quilted!

If you look closely on the left side of the stripes on the back, you will see a little oddity. Wonder what that is. Well, long time readers will know I don’t always have the exact amount I need on the binding, so I get creative, a lot! I was 1.5″ short of what I needed!!! So I grabbed the striped fabric and added in enough to finish it off.

And there’s my Let Freedom Ring. I can finally cross it off my 2021 UFO list, almost a month late, but what can you do. Now to figure out if I am doing September’s UFO number of fudging my numbers and going with something a little easier.

  1. Let Freedom Ring is such a neat pattern. I love your colors, and the little “oddity” is wonderful. Your quilting looks great! So glad you felt like getting back in your saddle. I’m floundering this week without my domestic, but your post has me fired up again!

    1. Thanks Linda, the “saddle” felt good, but don’t look too close, there are so many foibles!! I need to clean my tracks, I think it’s causing the motion to wobble a bit sometimes. > >

  4. Hi Chris! This is a really unique pattern for a quilt. I find it fascinating to look at. You did a fabulous job quilting it – each area stands out yet compliments its neighbor.   11. Let Freedom Ring is gorgeous… and the quilting looks perfect to me. Are you doing freehand quilting? Following a panto or computerized? Whatever it is you do a wonderful job at it. I read ages ago about a quilter who always put different fabric in her binding. She had a code to indicate when it was made. It’s only a vague memory so it might have been more or less than that. I think she showed her quilts in big shows and felt that doing the extra on the binding would help her identify her quilts if they were stollen.

    1. All the work on LFR is ruler or panto. The wreath is actually a paper panto from Urban Elementz. I was nervous at first, but once it is centered up, you just follow the lines! Thanks
