Friday FOs

During the retreat I attended earlier in the month I worked on table runners for the girls. I picked up 3 batik FQs and a background as we drove north. The pattern for the leaves is one I have used twice before.

I seem to be reducing the number of blocks each time! LOL

I made all the blocks before I adding sashing pieces to 1 side of each block. If you look closely at the block on the right you will see I forgot to corner a piece, so a redo had to be made. But soon I had all blocks sashed and pieced into runners. Then I moved on to other projects because these needed to be quilted. So, I went shopping.

And bought a new travel machine. LOL. And thought, why not test the machine with the extra HSTs I made while cornering my blocks. So, I did.

I picked up a b35 at a local shop. I just need a good, solid, lightweight machine for taking along, and this fit the bill. Since I already sewed the extra seam as I made my leaf blocks, it just took pressing and trimming to be ready to lay them out. I played with a few options, but decided this was the way to go. Once home from retreat I decided to use the leftover HRTs from the blocks to add to the piece.

I used the orange and green for the border and then finished it off with a red binding. I think it is perfect. The tips of the HRTs are flat because they weren’t really in ratio when I trimmed them, so we’ll just say it was a design feature!

But wait, what about those runners? Oh yeah, that’s why you’re here. I came home, added the stems with buttonhole stitch appliqué on my machine, and threw them on the mid-arm. I used a leaf panto to finish them in no time! For backing and binding I used the orange grunge dot I bought the other day and they were ready to go home to the girls on the weekend.

I may be done with this pattern, but who knows, it’s such a fun one to make.

  1. Hi Chris! A lightweight machine seems like a necessary item for you. Your runners turned out just great . . . I wonder if there’s a two-leaf table topper in your very near future. HAHA! Happy Friday to you. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. I need to dig out my leaf table runner I made last Fall! Where did I put it?! lol These runners are so pretty! I’m glad the travel machine fits the bill-it makes it so much easier to take to classes!
