It’s that time again! Time to get our machines wound up and our rotary cutters rolling! Time to dive into your stash or run out to the shop to get that perfect pull of fabrics.
My pull was all from stash! I love Kim Diehl fabrics and collect pieces whenever I come across ones I like. So I grabbed some of my favs and bought some more on Friday. A few in my line up are other lines, but will work with the color scheme I have planned.

To prepare for my Round Robin I turn to my EQ8 program to see what I can come up with. In the past I have usually had a block in mind for my center, but this time I was kind of adrift. And then, I saw it, a block online somewhere that was perfect. Knowing what the weekly designs are ahead of time, I mock up my project to get an idea of how my design will flow. And while I loved the final project, it just wasn’t going to be doable in the time frame we are looking at, so I dropped back and thought about it.
Happily I was able to come up with a design that still let me use the original block, but it will be used in a slightly different way than I first imagined. So, here’s my block!

A very simple 9 patch that is weighted in the center.
As the weeks progress you will catch on that my 2023 RR is taking a decidedly different tack than the ones from past years. It’s nothing ground breaking, but it’s the best design for me right now. Oh, the mystery! LOL.
Now, show us your blocks! Quilting Gail has the link up this week, be sure to check out all the beginnings for the 2023 SAHRR! Check out all the sponsors who have donated prizes for the 2023 SAHRR at Gail’s site.

Looking forward to your “different tack”! LOVE your fabrics!
Thanks! I hope it makes sense when done!
Whatever you are planning, it is sure to be gorgeous!
Aw. Thanks! It will be different,
I love the color palette and that block is a fun way to start! Can’t wait to see the first round.
It’s going to be fun seeing all those blocks our followers make.
Kim Diehl’s fabrics are so lovely – I have a stash of them that I pull out now and then. I love the colors in your center block, and I’m very curious about where you are going this year! Fun!
If I could collect them all I would!! LOL
It’s always fun to see what everyone comes up with for the SAHRR. Looking forward to seeing how you surround your center block.
It is so much fun!
A simple block is a good way to start – the borders always make thing interesting! Looking forward to seeing how this develops, Chris!
Thanks Diann! It will be fun!
Hi Chris! WOWEE! A 9-patch with a weighted center. I’ve never heard of that but 9-patches are a fabulous place to start. I can’t wait to see your decidedly different track, my friend. Woohoo! #SAHRR23 is off to a fabulous start. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
I could think of anyway else to explain it. Since it’s not symmetrical it must be weighted! LOL
ohhh … this is going to be a beautiful quilt! I love your fabric choices! 🙂
Thanks Gail! And thanks for keeping the fun going!!
This one will be fun to watch
I hope so! I had 2 deigns and each were equally interesting.
You’ve got lovely fabric picked out – can’t wait to see your mystery quilt unfolding!
Mystery Quilts aren’t usually my thing, but I am trying to step out of the box!

Sometimes that can be fun 🙂
What a great start! I look forward to seeing your SAHRR unfold!
Thanks! In the end it’s going to be simple, but that works for me right now.
