Table Scraps September Finish

Joining The Joyful Quilter for Table Scraps!

First I will share my failed August Table Scraps. Oh no, I didn’t fail at making it, I just didn’t get it done in August. But I did finish.

This was made for a challenge my Guild had. We were to use the #10 for our inspiration. I used 10 colors and then where they overlapped I used a uniting shade. Some are subtle, some are not!

Now, on to September. While I was away on retreat I started 2 table runners. My plan for the Table Scraps Challenge was to make a Double Irish Chain runner.

And I made the flimsy, but just didn’t know how I wanted to quilt it right now, so I turned to the 2nd runner, because I KNEW how I was going to quilt it!

This is Star Banner, a design of my own I created in EQ8. I didn’t piece the project, I just appliquéd circles and stars on top of the background.

I had fun auditioning the blues and reds to use for the project. I had plaids, prints, and lovely shades. Finally I settled on this.

For the quilting I went with stitching around the motifs and then echoed some lines in the centers.

The left photo is the truer background color.

As you can see meanders filled the background with the striped borders having SID to define them. In no time, it was done and on to the striped binding! I sewed it on the machine, having just hand stitched the binding on Let Freedom Ring, I wasn’t going there again.

Measuring at 48″Lx18″W it’s a perfect fit for my dining table! But right now it’s living in the storage chest since I am decorating for Fall now! But next summer, it will be out and Ringing Freedom!

Update on things: We were able to attend my Aunt’s funeral. It was a lovely service with each of her Granddaughters sharing memories. It was hard for them, but they perfectly conveyed my Aunt M’s spirit.

My Dad continues to improve, but he is still have periods of confusion and crankiness. As he has aged this past year he has gotten very cantankerous. I know that is just part of the aging process, with some suggesting it’s a hormone thing, but it still makes things difficult for those who he is barking at and being demanding of. I know the hip surgery, meds, pain, and limited mobilitiy is also an issue. Pray that he comes to accept the situation while he enters rehab for the foreseeable future. We came back home to attend some events, but I will likely drove back down to take turns staying at the rehab center during the day. I will continue to be slightly MIA while I attend to him, but I do have to post a finish for another TGIFF hosting this Friday.

Thank you!
