Joining The Joyful Quilter for Table Scraps!
First I will share my failed August Table Scraps. Oh no, I didn’t fail at making it, I just didn’t get it done in August. But I did finish.
This was made for a challenge my Guild had. We were to use the #10 for our inspiration. I used 10 colors and then where they overlapped I used a uniting shade. Some are subtle, some are not!
Now, on to September. While I was away on retreat I started 2 table runners. My plan for the Table Scraps Challenge was to make a Double Irish Chain runner.
And I made the flimsy, but just didn’t know how I wanted to quilt it right now, so I turned to the 2nd runner, because I KNEW how I was going to quilt it!
This is Star Banner, a design of my own I created in EQ8. I didn’t piece the project, I just appliquéd circles and stars on top of the background.
I had fun auditioning the blues and reds to use for the project. I had plaids, prints, and lovely shades. Finally I settled on this.
For the quilting I went with stitching around the motifs and then echoed some lines in the centers.
The left photo is the truer background color.
As you can see meanders filled the background with the striped borders having SID to define them. In no time, it was done and on to the striped binding! I sewed it on the machine, having just hand stitched the binding on Let Freedom Ring, I wasn’t going there again.
Measuring at 48″Lx18″W it’s a perfect fit for my dining table! But right now it’s living in the storage chest since I am decorating for Fall now! But next summer, it will be out and Ringing Freedom!
