TGIFF

Welcome to TGIFF! I am hostess this week and I hope you share your FOs with us.

This UFO is from Dec 2024 when I finished the last set of color blocks for the RSC. I used batiks and white on white backgrounds. I finished the last blocks and packed them away while I frittered my time on other things. This year the focus is on making blocks into tops so I can quilt those forgotten projects.

I tried to keep the colors dispersed, but I failed. To finish it off I added 3 borders and mitered the last striped one. I barely had enough to get the border width I wanted on that one.

It didn’t take much time to find the perfect quilt design for the block. the motifs fit perfectly in the areas of the block. The first border is only 1.5″ so I went with a small pearl string for it.

The next border is 2″ and I went angular for it and then used a Cathedral Crosshatch for the striped border. I added a curved triangle that I quilted with spaced line quilting to fill in between the Cathedrals. Once I finished the horizontal border I turned the quilt 90° to work on the last 2 borders. Instead of working the side borders as I roll the quilt up, I reload it to work the borders horizontally.

I was working on this top when we got the news that our dear friend passed, so the rest of the week/weekend was filled with his arrangements and travel.

A week later I was able to get back home and get into the studio to finish the borders. Once it was off the frame I used leftover Batiks to make the binding. I love it! I don’t usually do a sewn down binding, but I wasn’t sure where this one will live so I embraced a secure finish. I used a gray thread to disguise the stitching on such a colorful binding.

It is so bright and cheery, but I have no clue where it will live. I probably will keep it in the front room where it can live with my 2023 RSC. You can see that one on the left below. I just love the block design I used from my Pro-Stitcher catalog.

The back was pieced but it stills shows the designs so well.

I think I have arrived at a name for it. “All My Exes”, even though I do not have THAT many Exes in real life. LOL!!

    1. Aw thanks! I am learning with each project. I know where the mistakes are on this one, and it’s no big deal, the overall effect is what is needed.

Beautiful finish, Chris! The colors look well dispersed from here. Gorgeous custom quilting, from the front and from the back.
